The AMS Monitoring solution consists of a scalable multy tier design:

1. A central management/database server which controls all aspects of monitoring and is fully configurable through a web interface. The server controls the collectors and agents. If a collector fails or needs to be rebuild the server automatically downloads the last known configuration to it.  
2. One or multiple Collectors with their independent databases that hold temporary data as well as all tasks. The collector will remain active and continue to monitor even if the server is temporarily unavailable. Collectors communicate over secure SSH protocol and can be placed anywhere.
3. An optional client that significantly increases the functionality and monitoring capabilities. Besides collecting vital configuration information the client also has remote management capabilities.
